A man is accused of firing a gun inside an Easton home while two children were present in a failed suicide attempt, Forks Township police announced on Sunday, Nov. 9.
Officers were called to the 3000 block of Danser Hill Road around 9:04 p.m. on Tuesday, Nov. 4, for reports of a man who had shot himself, according to the release.
When police arrived, they found 51-year-old Jorge Parrales Mastarreno Sr. on the floor and a bullet hole in the ceiling consistent with a single gunshot. A spent .40-caliber shell casing and a loaded firearm were also recovered at the scene.
Parrales Mastarreno Sr. admitted to drinking alcohol throughout the day and allegedly fired a round into the ceiling before falling to the floor in front of two children and other residents, police explained.
Based on witness statements and physical evidence, he was charged with two counts of Felony Endangering the Welfare of Children, one count of Felony Discharge of a Firearm into an Occupied Structure, and four counts of Misdemeanor Recklessly Endangering Another Person, police said.
Parrales Mastarreno Sr. was taken into custody on a felony warrant on Saturday, Nov. 8, and is awaiting a preliminary arraignment at Northampton County Prison.
