MINNEAPOLIS — Facing a third-and-6 midway through the second quarter, Minnesota Vikings quarterback J.J. McCarthy stepped up in the pocket, and, rather than attempting a rush up the middle for a potential first down, the 22-year-old took an ill-advised shot into double coverage.

The pass was picked off and allowed the Baltimore Ravens to cut into the Vikings' early lead.

Facing a similar situation to start the second half, McCarthy took another shot, this time into single coverage, but receiver Justin Jefferson fell when he got tangled up with Baltimore cornerback Marlon Humphrey. The defensive back maintained his balance and came up with an easy interception to abruptly end yet another Minnesota drive.
