ATLANTA — Lenny Wilkens, an Atlanta Hawks icon and an NBA legend, died on Sunday at the age of 88.

Wilkens coached the Hawks from 1993-2000, where in his seven seasons he led Atlanta to three 50-win seasons and six consecutive playoff berths. In his first season, the Hawks tied a then-franchise record 57 wins and earned the top seed in the Eastern Conference despite trading superstar Dominque Wilkins away halfway through the season.

The Hawks were also the same franchise that drafted Wilkens in 1960, back when the franchise was based in St. Louis.
