After weeks of political deadlock, several Senate Democrats have signalled a readiness to support a deal to reopen the US government if final concessions are secured from the White House, according to a CNN report citing sources involved in the negotiations.

The possible breakthrough comes as the nation continues to endure the longest government shutdown in its history, now dragging on into its 40th day.

The Senate Appropriations Committee on Sunday released a three-bill spending package, known as a "minibus," as lawmakers moved closer to ending the weeks-long impasse. The package includes funding for military construction and the Department of Veterans Affairs, the legislative branch, and agriculture programmes, along with the Food and Drug Administration.
