HOUSTON — Texas Governor Greg Abbott officially announced during an event in Houston on Sunday night that he is running for governor in 2026.
Abbott has served as governor since 2015 and is eligible to seek a fourth term, which, if successful, would make him the longest-serving governor in Texas history.
"Texas is the heartbeat of this land we call America. As Texans, we will defend this state with every fiber of our being. We will protect what we built. We will finish what we started. We will lead Texas into its glorious future and that's why tonight I'm here to announce I am running for reelection as your governor for the great state of Texas," Abbott said to supporters at East River 9 in Houston.
