Delhi’s air quality has plunged to the season’s worst, with a thick blanket of smog enveloping the city and temperatures dropping sharply below the normal range. Amid the deteriorating pollution levels, the national capital witnessed a protest at India Gate , where parents and children gathered to demand urgent government action to tackle the toxic air crisis.

As of 7 am on Monday, Delhi's Air Quality Index (AQI) stood at 354, or under the "very poor" category, placing the city in the “red zone” , according to data from the Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB).

This marked a slight improvement from Sunday’s AQI of 390, which also fell in the “very poor” category.

Several key monitoring stations still recorded severe pollution levels -- Anand Vihar registered an AQI of 379, ITO 37
