November is National Homeless Youth Awareness Month and was recognized by the city of St. George through a proclamation passed by the City Council on Thursday.

“Across the nation, November is Youth Homelessness Awareness Month,” said Heidi Rugg, the state programs director for Youth Futures Utah.

Rugg was at St. George City Hall Thursday evening for the reading and adoption of the proclamation. The organization she represents, Youth Futures, was founded 10 years ago and opened its first shelter for homeless youth in Ogden with 16 beds and has since expanded into Southern Utah.
