Former Labor Party powerbroker and cabinet minister Graham Richardson will be honoured with a state funeral after he died at age 76.

The veteran politician and longtime Sky News contributor died on Saturday, survived by his devoted wife Amanda and their son D'Arcy.

Mr Richardson's has family accepted the Albanese government's offer of a state funeral, Sky News revealed on Monday.

"On Saturday morning, we lost Graham Richardson, a Labor legend—someone who made an enormous difference as a minister in the Hawke and Keating governments," Mr Albanese said.

Known affectionately as “Richo”, Mr Richardson served as a senior minister in the Hawke and Keating governments.
