On a day when their defense struggled to get stops against a dominant Los Angeles Rams offense, the 49ers couldn't afford many mistakes when they had the ball.
But San Francisco failed to score on its opening three drives, which contributed heavily to digging itself a 21-0 hole in the first half and an eventual 42-26 loss on Sunday at Levi's Stadium.
On the second of those possessions, the 49ers successfully had matriculated the ball into Rams territory before receiver Jauan Jennings surrendered a fumble at the end of a catch-and-run. Los Angeles recovered the fumble and proceeded to score a touchdown on the other end.
