AIKEN, SC. (WRDW/WAGT) - A golfer winning a tournament in their first appearance at a course may not seem likely, but it happened in dramatic fashion Sunday night at the Palmetto Golf Club.
Albany, Georgia native Nate Gahman battled his way up the leaderboard to finish as the champion of the tournament’s 50-year history.
“I had heard [Palmetto Golf Club] has really quick greens and it’s kind of a placement tee shot course, which I kind of like,” said Gahman.
Traditionally, the tournament is played in the summer and across 72 holes, but changes were made this year to host the tournament in the fall with a 54-hole schedule.
