Preliminary tests found botulism-causing bacteria in ByHeart infant formula, the type that has sickened at least 13 babies across 10 states since mid-August. No deaths have been reported.

ByHeart recalled two formula lots in what experts call an extremely rare outbreak of infant botulism linked to powdered infant formula.

The FDA is conducting its first comprehensive review of infant formula ingredients since 1998 following this outbreak and previous contamination incidents.

Preliminary tests showed that ByHeart baby formula contained the type of bacteria that produces the toxin linked to a botulism outbreak, California health officials said.
