Federal officers stationed at the U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement facility in South Portland watched from the rooftop Sunday as a new protest crowd gathered across the street.

About two dozen Fulcrum Fitness members and supporters, dressed in neon leotards, striped knee socks and flashy sneakers, staged a peaceful ’80s-themed aerobics demonstration they called “Sweatin’ Out the Fascists.”

The workout began around 1 p.m. and lasted about an hour. Participants took turns leading the group through synchronized movements to a loud retro soundtrack. A few carried protest signs throughout. At one point, a counterprotester wheeled over a stereo system and blasted competing music, briefly drowning out the aerobics soundtrack.
