Former Queensland Police Union president Ian Leavers has been found dead at his Brisbane home.

The 57-year-old, who led the police union for 15 years from 2009 to 2024, was found dead just before 10am on Monday, in what police said were non-suspicious circumstances.

Police were called to a sudden death at Mount Ommaney, in Brisbane’s south-west, about 9.50am.

After serving as a police officer for 35 years and president of the Queensland Police Union for 15 years, Leavers became the state’s first Cross-Border Commissioner in August 2024, tasked with supporting border communities in Queensland.
