The Grand Rapids extended their points streak on Sunday but had their franchise-record season-opening winning streak snapped with a 4-3 shootout loss to the Chicago Wolves at Allstate Arena.

The Griffins had won their first eight games and were the AHL’s lone unblemished team. Their 8-0-0-1 record through nine games remains the best start in franchise history.

All three Griffins goals came on the power play.

John Leonard recorded an assist to extend his career-high points streak to eight games. He scored the Griffins’ lone goal in the shootout, which they lost 2-1.

Shelson Dries, Austin Watson and Michael Brandsegg-Nygard scored goals for Grand Rapids. Brandsegg-Nygard’s goal was his first in the AHL regular season.
