NEW DELHI: In a significant security operation, police have recovered a large quantity of explosives and firearms in Faridabad, Haryana. On Sunday, authorities seized approximately 360 kg of ammonium nitrate, which is believed to be intended for making improvised explosive devices (IEDs). The operation was a joint effort between the Jammu and Kashmir Police and Haryana Police.
Faridabad Police Commissioner Satender Kumar confirmed the recovery during a press conference, stating, "It is an ongoing joint operation between Haryana police and J&K police. An accused, Dr. Muzammil, was nabbed. 360 kg of inflammable material is recovered yesterday, which is possibly ammonium nitrate. It is not RDX."
In addition to the ammonium nitrate, police also confiscated an assault rifle, a pistol, and a variety of ammunition, including 83 live rounds and 8 live rounds for the respective firearms. Other items recovered included timers, remotes, heavy metal, walkie-talkie sets, and various suitcases containing contraband materials.
The operation follows the recent arrest of another doctor, Dr. Adil Ahmad Rather, in Saharanpur, Uttar Pradesh, who was detained for allegedly supporting the banned terror outfit Jaish-e-Mohammed (JeM). Investigations revealed that the explosives were stored with another doctor, Mujahil Shakeel, who is currently under scrutiny.
The police are investigating how such a large quantity of explosives was transported to the area near the national capital without detection. The motive behind stockpiling these materials remains unclear, but the incident has raised concerns about the involvement of educated professionals in terror networks.
This operation highlights the ongoing threat posed by extremist groups and their attempts to expand their activities beyond Jammu and Kashmir, marking one of the most significant security alerts in recent months.
