SAN DIEGO (FOX 5/KUSI) -- More than 100 flights were cancelled and about 300 delayed at the San Diego international Airport on Sunday. Passengers were told foggy conditions were to blame in some cases as others were told cancellations were due to the government shutdown.

“About 2 hours into the flight, we were told by the Captain we had to turn around due to fog, so we just turned around and arrived back to Honolulu,” said Lisa Hayes, a San Diego resident on her way back from Hawaii who’s flight was diverted due to fog and later cancelled all together.

“I’m not scheduled to work until Wednesday. I better be back by then,” Hayes said.

Meanwhile, passengers heading to Phoenix were sent notifications that their flight was delayed due to reductions related to the government shutdown.
