Thane: In the case of the assault and robbery of a woman doctor in 2021, a Thane court has sentenced the man to seven years of rigorous imprisonment and imposed a Rs 20,000 fine, emphasising that the punishment sends a strong message against violence targeting medical practitioners.

Additional Sessions Judge Vasudha Bhosale, in the order on October 31, also imposed a fine of ₹20,000. A copy of the order was made available on Saturday, news agency PTI reported.

The incident occurred on January 3 2021, when the accused visited the doctor's clinic in the Bhayander area of Maharashtra's Thane district under the pretext of inquiring about an RT-PCR test. He was asked to wait, but he got angry and left.
