Kolkata: Passengers on board a SpiceJet flight from Mumbai to Kolkata had a narrow escape after the plane’s right engine caught fire and failed moments before landing on Sunday evening.

Flight SG670 landed at the Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose International (NSCBI) Airport in Kolkata under full emergency around 11.38 pm. There were nearly 188 people on board, including crew. ADVERTISEMENT

While officials did not mention the engine flame-out, passengers and those who spotted the fire from the ground narrated their experiences on Reddit.

From their accounts, it seems that the aircraft descended sharply after the engine failed and the pilots had to do their best to maintain altitude.
