In a significant counter-terror operation, police in Haryana and Jammu & Kashmir have discovered a large stockpile of explosives and weapons in Faridabad. This operation follows the recent arrest of a doctor from Pulwama, who is suspected of having ties to the Pakistan-backed terror group Jaish-e-Mohammed (JeM).
Authorities seized 360 kg of a highly flammable substance, believed to be ammonium nitrate, along with various arms and bomb-making materials from a rented apartment. The recovered items include an assault rifle with three magazines, 83 live cartridges, a pistol with eight rounds, two empty cartridges, two additional magazines, 12 suitcases, a bucket filled with explosives, 20 timers, four batteries, remotes, five kilograms of heavy metal, and a walkie-talkie set. Officials suspect these materials were intended for large-scale terror attacks.
The investigation has also raised questions about a woman doctor employed at Al-Falah University, whose car was linked to the assault rifle. Sources indicated, "We have not yet taken any action against her. It’s possible that the accused may have borrowed her vehicle without her knowledge. Since the weapon was recovered from her car, her role remains under investigation." She is currently in Jammu & Kashmir for questioning.
The operation's breakthrough came after the arrest of Dr. Adil Ahmad Rather from Pulwama, who was detained in Saharanpur. His interrogation led to the arrest of Dr. Muzammal, an assistant professor at Al-Falah University, about ten days ago. Following his arrest, police searched his rented accommodation in Faridabad, where the explosives and weapons were found. Officials noted that Muzammal had rented an additional room specifically for storing these items about 15 days prior, located near the university in the Dhouj area.
Faridabad Police Commissioner Satender Kumar Gupta confirmed the dismantling of a major terror module, stating, "Though I cannot reveal much of the operation details as it concerns national security, joint teams of Haryana and J&K Police have successfully busted a major terror module." He added that another operative from this module was arrested in Saharanpur, and more arrests are anticipated. The investigation continues, with forensic experts analyzing the recovered materials to determine the exact nature of the explosives.
