The iconic Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium in New Delhi is set for a complete transformation, with plans underway to redevelop the 102-acre complex into a modern Sports City catering to multiple disciplines, a Sports Ministry source confirmed on Monday (November 10).

The stadium, which for long has been one of India's iconic sporting centres and hosted the opening and the closing ceremonies of the 1982 Asian Games while also being a central venue for the athletic events at the 2010 Commonwealth Games.

As per the proposal, the existing structure of the stadium will be dismantled, and a new, integrated sports hub will be constructed in its place. The project aims to include top-tier training and event facilities
