In the years after Hurricane Katrina, when the Mahalia Jackson Theater was still out of commission, the New Orleans Ballet Association performed in Dixon Hall on the Tulane University campus.

In 2008, one of those performances was the premiere of a work commissioned by NOBA titled “Ma Maison,” a tribute to New Orleans and its resilience in surviving the most destructive storm in the city’s history.

Designed by world-renowned choreographer Trey McIntyre and accompanied by the Preservation Hall Jazz Band, the piece was restaged three years later in the Mahalia Jackson Theater — which had recently been reopened. Also featured that night was another original piece by McIntrye titled “The Sweeter End.”
