In the latest federal court volley determining the fate of the Supplemental Nutrition and Assistance Program, or SNAP, during the nearly seven-week-long government shutdown, the North Carolina Department of Health and Human Services announced Nov. 8 it will pause full benefits to the state's thousands of recipients who rely on food stamps to feed their families.
The announcement comes after the U.S. Supreme Court’s decision issued late Nov. 7 granting the Trump administration’s appeal to temporarily halt the distribution of full SNAP benefits. After issuing partial November SNAP benefits to state residents the morning of Nov. 7, the remaining full benefits were set to begin over the weekend, according to the state health department's statement.
