WASHINGTON ( 25News Now and AP) - Illinois’ two US Senators, both Democrats, took opposing sides on a tentative agreement to end the government shutdown.
Sen. Dick Durbin (D-IL) was among eight members of his party to support the bill without a guaranteed extension of healthcare subsidies, which had been a demand of Congressional Democrats. Rather, the compromise has Senate Minority Leader John Thune promising to schedule a vote on Affordable Care Act tax credits.
Sen. Tammy Duckworth (D-IL) voted no. Both senators released statements Sunday night.
Sen. Durbin, the Senate’s No. 2 Democrat, released the following statement:
