Rep. Jamie Raskin sent a detailed six-page letter to President Donald Trump on Sunday, raising concerns about new allegations from a whistleblower. The whistleblower claims that Ghislaine Maxwell is preparing a "commutation application" for the Trump administration and is receiving special treatment while in prison.
Raskin, who is the top Democrat on the House Judiciary Committee, accused the Trump administration of facilitating a "corrupt misuse of law-enforcement resources." He called for Deputy U.S. Attorney General Todd Blanche to testify before the Judiciary Committee to address these allegations. Raskin stated that Blanche should "answer for this corrupt misuse of law enforcement resources and potential exchange of favors for false testimony exonerating you and other Epstein accomplices."
This letter follows an earlier communication sent on August 12 by Raskin and other Democrats to the Department of Justice and the Bureau of Prisons. They expressed concerns about Maxwell’s transfer to Federal Prison Camp Bryan, a minimum-security facility. Raskin described this transfer as an "apparent flagrant violation of BOP policies," particularly one that prohibits placing sex offenders in such facilities.
Maxwell is currently serving a 20-year sentence for child sex trafficking and other crimes linked to Jeffrey Epstein, a former financier and convicted sex offender who died by suicide in jail in 2019. Previously, Maxwell was held at FCI Tallahassee in Florida, a low-security prison for both men and women. In contrast, FPC Bryan is a minimum-security camp exclusively for women.
The transfer occurred after a two-day meeting in July between Maxwell and Blanche in Tallahassee. According to Maxwell's attorney, they discussed "about 100 names" related to Epstein during this meeting. This discussion followed a promise from the Trump administration to release more information about Epstein.
