DILWORTH, Minn. — The superintendent and administrative team at Dilworth-Glyndon-Felton Public Schools will be in cut-down mode in the coming weeks after voters said no to helping the district fill a widening budget gap.

Residents of the school district narrowly rejected an $850,000 annual operating levy during a special election on Tuesday, Nov. 4.

Just over 51% of voters were opposed while nearly 49% were in favor of the referendum, which was meant to address ongoing budget deficits and fund operating costs such as classroom supplies, curriculum, technology and building maintenance.

Superintendent Shannon Hunstad said the election result will mean some painful times ahead.

“We’re going to have some bleeding for a year or two,” he told the Forum.
