The U.S. Senate has narrowly voted on a proposal that could end the government shutdown, an effort that was spearheaded by New England lawmakers but still faces hurdles before moving ahead.

In the meantime, the shutdown continues to cause chaos throughout the country and across multiple sectors.

A big pain point remains air travel, with more than 2,000 flights getting canceled on Sunday across the country, on top of more than 7,000 flight delays. The federal government told states to claw back food assistance already given out for November — including here in Massachusetts. But a deal to reopen the government could get the funding back on track. NBC10’s Mary Markos has reaction from state leaders and advocates.
