YouTube TV is offering its subscribers a $20 credit amid its ongoing contract dispute with Disney.
"We know it’s been disappointing to lose Disney content, and we want you to know we deeply appreciate your patience. In light of the disruption, we’re offering our subscribers a $20 credit," YouTube TV said in an email to subscribers on Nov. 9.
Disney-owned channels, including ESPN and ABC, were pulled from YouTube TV on Oct. 30 after the companies could not reach a new contractual agreement.
Disney executives said in a Nov. 7 note to employees that it had made concessions in the negotiations, including offering YouTube TV a deal "that would cost less overall than the terms of our recently expired license."
YouTube TV, which is owned by Google, has accused Disney of proposing "costly economic terms that would raise prices on YouTube TV customers and give our customers fewer choices."
Nonetheless, YouTube TV's latest message to subscribers reiterated that it is "working in good faith to negotiate a deal with Disney." Here's what to know about redeeming the credit.
How to redeem the YouTube TV $20 credit
When the Disney content outage began, YouTube TV said it would offer subscribers the credit if the Disney channels remain unavailable for an "extended period of time."
As of Nov. 9, YouTube TV said primary account holders — also known as family managers — would receive an email in the following days detailing how to access the credit.
Here's how to redeem it:
- Go to tv.youtube.com on web browser and sign in. The credit is not accessible on YouTube TV's mobile app.
- Select your profile picture.
- Select Settings.
- In the left menu, select Updates.
- Select Claim credit.
Once claimed, you’ll see a message confirming that the credit will be applied towards your next bill.
If you're billed through Google Play or another external provider (not through YouTube TV directly), the credit will be applied to your account automatically. To confirm how you’re billed, go to the Billing tab.
