The Supreme Court on Monday refused to entertain a plea by Waris-de-Punjab chief and MP Amritpal Singh challenging the extension of his detention under the National Security Act (NSA) [ Amritpal Singh vs. Union of India & Ors. ].
A Bench of Justices Aravind Kumar and NV Anjaria asked Singh to approach the Punjab and Haryana High Court in the matter.
The top court added that the High Court should decide on his plea expeditiously, within 6 weeks.
Singh has been under detention in Assam under the NSA since 2023. He was elected to the Lok Sabha from the Khadoor Sahib constituency a year later.
