Vince Gill as been named as this year’s recipient of the Country Music Association ‘s annual Willie Nelson Lifetime Achievement Award, set to be bestowed during the 59th annual edition of the CMA Awards on Nov. 19.
Prior to getting the trophy, Gill will be feted with a special musical tribute, featuring performers yet to be announced.
Previous recipients include Willie Nelson, in 2012 (before it was named for him, obviously), on up through George Strait at last year’s ceremony. It is not given out every year. In the years between Wilson and Strait getting it, the award has been bestowed upon Alan Jackson, Loretta Lynn, Dolly Parton, Johnny Cash (posthumously), Charley Pride, Kenny Rogers and Kris Kristofferson.
