HMRC has issued a "29,100" UK-wide alert as thousands could lose money from scam sites . The Labour Party government's tax authority has confirmed that it has taken down thousands of fake websites.

On X, HMRC said: "In the last 12 months, we took down more than 29,100 scam websites. Recognising and reporting scams helps protect taxpayers across the UK. If you’re unsure if the contact you’ve received is a scam, report it."

HMRC said: "Report a suspicious HMRC phone call. Use the online form to tell HMRC if you’ve received a phone call you do not think is genuine. You’ll need to give your email address.
