In a move to boost train-handling capacity, Indian Railways is developing Mega Coaching Terminals in approximately 20 major cities across the country. This initiative aims to improve efficiency and ensure smoother train operations, especially during festivals and peak travel seasons.
According to a report in The Indian Express, these 'Mega Coaching Terminals' will be built in 20 selected cities with significant demand for both incoming and departing trains. These terminals will be installed at major locations in key cities, including Delhi, Mumbai, Chennai, Kolkata, and Ahmedabad.
A mega coaching terminal is already under construction at Ahmedabad, enabling the city to handle around 150 trains, up from the current 45. Another new terminal is also planned in Surat.
