PORTSMOUTH, Va. (WAVY) – More than 800,000 Virginians rely on the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program, or SNAP, to put food on the table.
Governor Glenn Youngkin initiated Virginia's Emergency Nutrition Assistance, VENA, in October. Last night, the U.S. Court of Appeals denied the Trump Administration's efforts to stop the release of full funding for November’s SNAP benefit. The USDA has directed all states to initiate partial SNAP benefits.
On Sunday night, Gov. Youngkin announced he will pause VENA. VENA was a result of the partial funding for SNAP. It was created from the budget’s surplus.
“The Commonwealth launched VENA last week to ensure there was no interruption to food benefits for Virginians in need,” said Governor Glen
