Police are investigating three homicides and a shooting that unfolded in the Bronx over the weekend, including a beating death at a homeless shelter, according to NYPD officials.
The first killing happened just before 9 p.m. Saturday at a men’s shelter on Phelan Place and Billingsley Terrace in Morris Heights, officials said. Police responded to a 911 call about an unconscious person at the building and found a 48-year-old man who had been attacked with a metal locker door while he was sleeping.
First responders took the man to Saint Barnabas Hospital, where he was pronounced dead. Police later arrested 37-year-old shelter resident Anthony Mawuena in connection with the incident and charged him with murder, manslaughter and weapons possession.
