MARTINSBURG -- Anthony Barr Brown knelt down and hammered a tiny flag pole into the ground, beside a grave in Rosedale Cemetery. Although he did not personally know the veteran whose service he was honoring, he nonetheless felt that his work was meaningful.
As a second lieutenant infantry officer with the Maryland Army National Guard and the son of a master chief in the U.S. Navy, Brown has seen how servicemen are far too often overlooked and forgotten. And so, he determined that he would spend the Saturday before Veterans Day, doing what he could to honor those who had served, by placing around 200 flags at marked veteran graves in the cemetery.
