The federal agency was notified by the World Health Organization that Canada lost its measles elimination status after a review of epidemiological and laboratory data found ongoing transmission of the same virus strain for more than a year. Article content Article content
“Canada can re-establish its measles elimination status once transmission of the measles strain associated with the current outbreak is interrupted for at least 12 months,” said the agency on Monday.
Canada has reported measles outbreaks starting October 2024 with cases across the country except Newfoundland and Labrador, Nunavut and Yukon.
