State schools Superintendent Kathy Hoffman on Tuesday reiterated her goals of an equitable education system following a weekend during which more than 100 Valley parents camped outside of Sunnyslope High School to register their children in the school, which is one of the top-rated public high schools in the Phoenix area.
A team of parents began camping outside of the school Saturday night and continued for more than 36 hours to be among the first in line to register their children for the fall semester on Monday morning.
The line eventually grew to more than 100 parents and contractors whom parents hired to hold their place in line.
In a written statement to The Arizona Republic, Hoffman said all students deserve access to a quality education “no matter their zip code or background.”
