New Delhi: At least eight people lost their lives and several others were injured after an explosion in a car on Monday evening. The blast took place near Gate No1 of the Red Fort metro station. There is no update on the cause of the blast so far.

The impact of the blast was so severe that some of the cars nearby were also damaged. An alert was sounded in the national capital and other parts of the country, following the incident. As per reports, the blast took place in an i20 car. The number plate of the car has been traced to Haryana.

PM Narendra Modi and other political leaders, across party lines, condoled the loss of lives in the blast. Home Minister Amit Shah also visited the LNJP hospital, where injured are being treated, and spoke to them.
