Danny Roberts knows a lot can change in three years.

In the space of just 30 months, the former UFC welterweight went from fighting Jack Della Maddalena to watching him be crowned champion in his old division.

Having been scheduled to fight the higher-ranked Leon Edwards in London two months prior, Della Maddalena entered his welterweight title bout with Belal Muhammad in May as a big underdog.

But after five rounds during which he outclassed Muhammad on the feet, landing 200 total strikes, Della Maddalena became the new king in Dana White 's welterweight ranks at UFC 315.

The 29-year-old from Australia showed excellent takedown defence against the elite grappler to claim a unanimous decision win, and subsequently received glowing praise from the MMA world.
