SAVANNAH, Ga. (WSAV) — Cold weather is making its way to the Coastal Empire. The Savannah Fire Department has some advice that can help you ensure the safety of your home and loved ones.

In a video posted on social media, firefighters shared different recommendations to keep yourself warm and safe:

Space heaters should be plugged directly into the outlet. Do not use an extension cord or power strip, and don't plug any other electrical devices in the same outlet as a heater. These could overheat and cause a fire.

Keep space heaters three feet away from furniture and flammable fabric. This creates a safe area around the heater, allowing proper air circulation, preventing house or workplace fires.
