PORTLAND Ore. (KPTV) - Governor Tina Kotek has signed House Bill 3991, an emergency transportation package aimed at safeguarding Oregon’s roads, bridges, and transit systems.
The governor’s office says the legislation fills a $300 million funding gap and prevents significant cuts to the Oregon Department of Transportation’s maintenance and operations, as well as layoffs of essential transportation staff.
“This bill will help us keep state highways and local roads safe and open to traffic while preserving transit service and halting the pending layoffs of essential transportation staff,” Kotek stated, thanking the legislature and a broad coalition of stakeholders.
The signing of the bill comes more than a month after lawmakers approved the bill on Sept. 29.
