ARLINGTON, Va. — Air traffic controllers have now missed out on a second paycheck amid the longest federal government shutdown in history.
National Air Traffic Controllers Association (NATCA) President Nick Daniels urged Congress to strike a deal quickly to end the shutdown in order for employees to get paid as cancellations and delays persist . He said for more than a month, workers continue to report for duty, many up to six days a week and 10 hours a day without pay.
“They deserve better, and they absolutely deserve their pay,” said Daniels. “The added stress leads to fatigue. The fatigue has led to the erosion of safety and increased risk every day that this shutdown drags on.”
“The uncertainty and financial strain are becoming unbearable,” added air traffic controller Amy Lark.
