MANDAN, N.D. — The Dickinson Mavericks knew that they were on the smaller side heading into the Western Dakota Association Championships. However, that didn’t stop them from performing at a high level on Friday, Nov. 7 at the Mandan Aquatic Center. The Mavericks earned fifth place after racking up 183 points, and had 25 individuals place in the top 16.

“It was an exciting meet. All of the girls performed really well. We had a lot of time drops in several events across all of the athletes, our divers performed very well, moving up in places this year as well,” DHS head coach Amy Smith said.

The Mavericks also had two new individual state qualifiers on Friday. Freshman Rae Espinoza, who had already qualified for the 500 freestyle, earned a spot in the 200 freestyle after placing sixth at 2
