ALLEGHENY COUNTY, Pa. —

An inmate in Allegheny County Jail has died following the report of a medical emergency.

Officials reported the death of a 38-year-old man who was brought into jail on Oct.1 for harassment charges. While in jail, he was sentenced for two protection from abuse violations. Advertisement

Officials say staff called in a medical emergency around 10 a.m. on Monday. Staff performed lifesaving measures until paramedics arrived at 10:22 a.m.

The inmate was declared dead at 10:38 a.m.

Officials say an internal review will be conducted, as is practice. Allegheny County Police have been notified and have started an investigation.

The inmate's identity and his cause of death have not been released.
