NEW MIDDLETOWN, Ohio - Springfield Local High School was paid a visit by a local Vietnam veteran and Medal of Honor recipient Monday morning.
Medal of Honor recipient PFC Kenneth David of Warren acted as a guest speaker in the Springfield Local High School Auditorium ahead of Veterans Day.
Both the band and choir honored David and his fellow veterans, with the choir performing the U.S. Naval Academy fight song, "Anchors Aweigh."
According to DAV.org, on May 7, 1970, David's platoon leader was killed in an ambush, and several of his fellow soldiers were wounded.
DAV.org reports David immediately handed off his radio and fired at the enemy, repeatedly exposing himself to enemy fire in the process to draw attention away from his comrades.
