The current Supreme Court is conservative but not revolutionary. That’s why no one should be surprised that the justices have turned down a chance to reconsider their 2015 ruling legalizing same-sex marriage nationwide.
Since the high court’s 2022 decision overturning Roe v. Wade, which created a constitutional right to abortion, Democrats including Kamala Harris and Hillary Clinton have raised the specter of a similar reversal on same-sex marriage. Democrats know that same-sex marriage is popular and that creating the false perception it is hanging by a thread could help them raise money and win votes.
