A convicted drug dealer who was freed by President Donald Trump and later accused of attacking a nurse and groping a nanny was sent back to federal prison on Monday.
Jonathan Braun, a Long Island man who reportedly violated the terms of release after he was charged with several new crimes, has been sentenced to 27 months in a federal jail in Brooklyn, The Guardian reported.
Braun was accused of "swinging an IV pole at a hospital nurse and threatening to kill her, screaming at a member of his synagogue, groping his family’s nanny and evading bridge tolls."
Brooklyn federal judge Kiyo Matsumoto noted Braun's “expressions of remorse” and that he promised to “lead a law-abiding life.” He also noted that many people he harmed have apparently forgiven him and his actions.
“Don’t squander it,” Matsumoto told Braun.
Braun was sentenced to 10 years in prison in 2019 for smuggling 220,000 pounds of marijuana. However, due to a combination of giving prosecutors valuable information about his loan-sharking business and having connections to the Kushner family that helped him pull weight with the president, Trump commuted his sentence just before leaving office in 2021.
