Syrian President Ahmed al-Sharaa met with U.S. President Donald Trump at the White House on Monday as he seeks help rebuilding the war-ravaged Middle Eastern country and getting international sanctions permanently lifted.
The sit-down marked the first time a Syrian leader has visited the White House and is a key step in Mr. al-Sharaa’s effort to build bridges to the West since he ended the Assad family’s more than half-century dictatorship last year.
