King County Executive-elect Girmay Zahilay outlined an expedited transition process Monday, naming a 100-member transition committee and stressing that local government must serve as a counterbalance to the actions of the Trump administration, as he prepares to take the helm of Washington’s largest county in a little over two weeks.
Zahilay, who defeated his fellow Metropolitan King County Councilmember Claudia Balducci in last week’s election, will take office Nov. 25, well before the normal January transition date. He is taking office early because he is replacing an appointed executive — Shannon Braddock — who has been filling the role since the resignation of Dow Constantine in April.
