POLK COUNTY, Texas (KTRE) - Polk County residents may return home Monday after previously being asked to evacuate an area threatened by a dam breach.
The owners of the damaged dam at Carter Lake said the water level has been lowered by a foot and is now below where the dam is damaged, according to Polk County Emergency Management. They also said water is no longer flowing from the 8-inch hole in the embankment.
PCEM met with the TCEQ Dam Safety Division and found it was safe for residents to return home but asked them to be careful when driving roads and bridges over Dabbs Creek due to the water being pumped from the lake.
According to PCEM, the owners said they plan to lower the water level two or three more feet with the help of a six-inch pipe that sits below the spillway to help wit
