COLUMBUS, Ohio — The Ohio Department of Job and Family Services announced Monday it will begin distributing partial Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) benefits this week following new guidance from the U.S. Department of Agriculture amid the ongoing federal government shutdown .
The department said payments could begin as early as Wednesday and will continue daily until all recipients have received their partial benefits.
The USDA's Food and Nutrition Service, which oversees SNAP, instructed states over the weekend to reduce the maximum benefit each household can receive in November by 35%. Under the new calculations, most recipients will receive less than 65% of their normal monthly benefit, the agency said.
